Intel has unveiled its new unmanned system, the Intel Falcon 8+, which is aimed at the industrial inspection, surveying and mapping industries.

The system is an improved version of the Falcon 8, developed by Germany’s Ascending Technologies, which Intel bought earlier this year. The Falcon 8+ is powered by the AscTec Trinity autopilot, which provides full electronic system redundancy, boasts automated aerial-sensing solutions and has what Intel describes as the best-in-class onboard sensors, allowing for detailed perspectives when flying and surveying structures.

Included with the Falcon 8+ UAS are the waterproof Intel Cockpit for ground control. The weather-hardened control station can support payloads with up to 1080p video resolution for the live views while flying. The Falcon 8+ also comes equipped with the Intel Powerpack and its smart batteries to power the UAS during its flight.

The AscTec Falcon 8 system had several functionalities that will be included on the Falcon 8+, including easily exchangeable and deeply integrated payloads and high-precision GPS.
