With the support of AUVSI, the International Civil Aviation Organization is hosting it's first Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Symposium in Montreal. RPAS are more commonly known in the U.S. as unmanned aircraft systems. ICAO is a United Nations specialized agency that works with the 191 member states to develop international standards and recommended practices, which states reference when developing legally-enforceable national civil aviation regulations.

The symposium runs from March 23-25 and deals with subjects like airworthiness, operational considerations, air traffic management integration, lessons from civil/military use, detect and avoid and other technologies, licensing, safety management, security, and legal questions when considering best practices for RPAS/UAS integration across the globe.

AUVSI's participation will help grow its footprint in international advocacy, especially as the efforts for global harmonization of regulations and standards moves forward. Fostering these key relationships and discussions at the international level, will increase AUVSI's ongoing ability to have a direct impact on these global issues.
