Yamaha Creates Unmanned Helicopter for Agricultural Purposes

Yamaha has developed a new unmanned helicopter called the FAZER R, built specifically for agricultural uses.

The development of the FAZER R came after customers requested a system with a large enough tank to cover large areas of land with just one flight. With that in mind, developers at Yamaha decided to build off of the original FAZER technology, and they increased the size of the tank so that it could carry 32 liters of spray instead of 24 liters.

Possessing a larger tank, the FAZER R has the ability to cover a wide area of land (as much as four hectares, or nearly 10 acres) without the need to refuel, making its users more efficient.

Some other unique features of the FAZER R include aerodynamic improvements that make it more efficient in flight, and an expanded wireless control range available to ten frequencies, which helps with crosstalk avoidance.

The helicopters are currently being showcased this week at the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2016 in Tokyo, and will be available for sale to the public next month.

Yamaha helicopters are widely used for crop spraying in Japan, and a different model has been used in California to spray vineyards in Napa Valley.
