AUVSI and TRB to host world’s largest gathering of automated vehicle professionals and experts

ARLINGTON, Va. — Senior officials and researchers from government, and academics, and industry will meet in San Francisco July 19 to 21 for the third annual Automated Vehicles Symposium. AVS 2016 is hosted by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International and the Transportation Research Board. It is the largest gathering of professionals and experts working to make automated vehicles a reality.

This event will focus on challenges and opportunities related to the increasing automation of motor vehicles as well as the environments in which they operate. With ever-increasing interest in automated vehicles, AVS 2016 will build on the success of last year’s symposium, which included attendees from 25 countries and 40 U.S. states. The symposium will provide updates on state-of-the-art road vehicle automation research through educational sessions, breakouts, exhibits and networking opportunities.

AUVSI and TRB have organized topics to be discussed at AVS 16 on ethical considerations related to automated vehicles, public perceptions of the technology, unique technical and legal challenges, international initiatives in the field, enhancing the cybersecurity of these vehicles, and how urban planning can impact or be impacted by the technology.

— Dr. Mark R. Rosekind, Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

— Colm Boran, Autonomous Vehicle Platform, Ford Motor Co.
