Xsens released MT Software Suite 4.3 for its MTi-10 and 100-series inertial measurement units, vertical reference units or altitude and heading reference systems, featuring active heading stabilization that is 20 times more effective than using pure gyroscope dead reckoning.

According to the company, its AHS can benefit agricultural vehicles, indoor robotics, directional drilling, pipeline inspection, pedestrian navigation applications, satellite communications on the move and handheld laser scanners.

“Customers are already choosing our MTis because of their accurate heading tracking capabilities, but this algorithm will bring the accuracy to a while new level, enabling more applications and creating new markets,” says Industrial Applications Product Manager Marcel van Hak.

Without AHS, gyro bias accounted for up to 50 degrees of drift after 17 minutes during testing. With AHS, MTi’s heading differed 1.2 degrees from the initial orientation.

MT Software Suite 4.3 with AHS is available immediately as a free firmware update to current MTi customers with a beta version available for Android.
