APRIL 28-29, 2018 | GALVANIZE | BOULDER, CO
The definitive unmanned systems hackathon, in conjunction with AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2018.
What is XBuild?
XBuild is the official hackathon of AUVSI, the world’s most influential association for unmanned systems professionals.
The future belongs to those who believe they have the power to make a difference. Imagine the possibilities that exist when top engineering minds gather together to harness the power of their imagination, skill and ingenuity to innovate solutions for the unmanned systems industry.
Through its exhilarating atmosphere of innovation, collaboration and cutting-edge problem solving, XBuild is the spot where expertise meets creative expression and technology meets forward thinking. It’s the spot where you take center stage to demonstrate the transformative power that exists when bright minds are encouraged to tap into their fullest potential.
We give you the resources to make anything you want. Together, we can create the future of unmanned systems.
Who can enter?
XBuild is for everyone!
We welcome makers, who are 18 or older, of all skill levels and experience. If you’re a new face in the unmanned systems industry, and have never laid hands on a drone, we want your fresh ideas. Maybe you’re a professional working in the field—we want you to come and share your experience, learn new perspectives, and get a chance to stretch your creative muscles.
Our application process will help us select the best makers to attend XBuild. Even if you’re not a hackathon veteran, we ask you to apply anyway—first-timers are always welcome.
Q: When and where is it?
A: XBuild is taking place at Galvanize Boulder, 1023 Walnut St, Boulder, CO 80302. It’ll begin at 9:00 AM on April 28, 2018 and conclude at 5:00 PM on April 29, 2018.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Laptops, chargers, cell phones, and of course passion are helpful. Other useful items include: toiletries, a change of clothes, a pillow, some earplugs, an eye mask, a jacket, and...deodorant.
Knives, firearms, and other dangerous items are not permitted at the event. Drones and other unmanned systems are welcome if you have them!
Q: How big are teams?
A: Teams can be anywhere from 2-5 people. You are welcome to go solo, but we encourage you to make new connections!
Q: What kind of hardware will you have?
A: We have a full hardware library - everything from wires and soldering kits to drones, Myo armbands, HTC Vives, and more.
Q: What if I don’t have teammates?
A: We’ll have a team forming session before the event. You are not required to come as a team (and we generally encourage you to consider adding new members at the event).
Q: How much does this event cost?
A: XBuild is completely, 100% free for the entire weekend. We will provide all meals, swag, hardware, and anything else you might need to make amazing things.
Q: Is travel reimbursement offered?
A: We will be offering travel reimbursement to some out-of-Colorado applicants. Apply early for the best chance. Carpools of two (2) or more people will be reimbursed within Colorado.
Q: Are we allowed to build on past projects?
A: A hackathon is best experienced as a complete start-to-finish sprint. Therefore, you are not allowed to bring in any prior work. Open-source projects and libraries are totally OK, and coming with an idea is fine as well.
