AUVSI New England UAS and AAM Summit: Industry Implications for Evolving Regulations

Last week, Max Rosen from AUVSI Headquarters attended AUVSI New England’s UAS and AAM Summit 2023. AUVSI New England is an active AUVSI Chapter that includes individuals and member companies all across the New England region.   Max participated in a panel discussion moderated by Jeffrey Vincent, Executive Director of the UAS Integration Office and a key FAA champion on UAS and AAM issues. AUVSI Statement on FAA Extending Remote ID Enforcement

Arlington, Va. – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced today that it will exercise discretion to not take enforcement action against drone operators who are not complaint with Remote Identification (Remote ID) until March 16, 2024. FAA Releases UAS Fact Sheet Update for 2023

Last week, the FAA released its Updated Fact Sheet (2023) on State and Local Regulation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).   In the eight years since the last Fact Sheet from the FAA, many states and localities have introduced drone legislation. While some measures were positive and supportive of industry, others were far-reaching and encroaching on federal authorities.  

June Recap: 2023 State Legislative Sessions

The sixth, and final, month of the “traditional” state legislative session has ended, with another ten states adjourning from their regular session, for a total of 41 states out of session. Of the nine states still in, six have legislature that meet year-round.   Of the adjourned States, Alaska, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia all have carryover – so all the measures in those states will remain eligible for consideration in 2024.
