Terra Drone Europe to provide UAS services to UK's national mapping agency

Terra Drone Europe, a group company of Terra Drone Corporation, has announced that it has secured a framework agreement to provide UAS services to the national mapping agency of the United Kingdom, Ordnance Survey.  Through this agreement, Terra Drone Europe will provide a variety of UAS services to Ordnance Survey, with deliverables including orthomosaics, digital terrain models (DTM) and digital surface models. “This framework shows how Ordnance Survey is using new and innovative techniques to create the most accurate maps of the United Kingdom,” says Patrick Rickerby, technical director, Terra Drone Europe.

Embry-Riddle, UCF partner to examine how UAS can be used to map oyster reefs

With a focus on 21 oyster reefs near Edgewater, Florida, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Central Florida (UCF) have partnered to develop methodologies for remotely mapping regions that are difficult, and expensive, to monitor on site. The goal of the research is to utilize UAS to collect different types of information while surveying the reefs, without ever visiting the locations in person. If the project is successful, it would represent progress, signaling a clear change in the way environmental data has traditionally been collected, according to Dr. Dan Macchiarella, professor of Aeronautical Science.

SBG Systems debuting Quanta UAV Series during Xponential 2019

During Xponential 2019, SBG Systems is debuting its brand new line of Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), the Quanta UAV Series, which is dedicated to UAS-based surveying integrators. To help UAS surveyors save autonomy for additional survey lines, SBG has designed a small, lightweight, and low-power INS offered on two levels of accuracy.

Ambarella and Momenta develop collaborative HD mapping platform for autonomous vehicles

Ambarella Inc., a developer of high-resolution video processing and computer vision semiconductors, and Momenta, an autonomous driving technology company, have developed a collaborative HD mapping platform for autonomous vehicles. The combined platform provides HD map technologies such as mapping, localization for autonomous vehicles, and map updates through crowdsourcing, thanks to the combination of Ambarella’s CV22AQ CVflow computer vision system-on-chip (SoC) with Momenta’s deep learning algorithms. “We are pleased to partner with Momenta to provide a powerful and open HD map platform,” says Fermi Wang, CEO of Ambarella.

PrecisionHawk uses drone technology to hunt for buried treasure in the Philippines

Buried treasure is often the stuff of legend, but that didn’t stop PrecisionHawk from recently traveling more than 7,000 miles to hunt for buried treasure in the Philippines left by the Japanese during World War II. Working alongside the History Channel on a show called Lost Gold of World War II, a production company called Ample Entertainment approached PrecisionHawk in June 2018 because it needed a partner that could use lidar-equipped drones to penetrate the deep vegetation in order to map ancient trade paths across more than 70 acres of rainforest in the Philippines.

Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development and Carmera working on HD maps for autonomous vehicles

Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development Inc. (TRI-AD) and Carmera Inc. have announced that they will collaborate to conduct a proof of concept surrounding the development of camera-based automation of high definition (HD) maps for urban and surface roads. According to the companies, this is the first step towards realizing TRI-AD's open software platform concept known as Automated Mapping Platform (AMP), which will support the scalability of highly automated driving by combining data gathered from vehicles of participating companies to generate HD maps.

Exyn Technologies' Advanced Autonomous Aerial Robot designed for data collection in GPS-denied environments

Exyn Technologies Inc. has announced that its Advanced Autonomous Aerial Robot (A3R) is now available commercially. Driven by the company’s exynAI proprietary software, the Exyn A3R is the first and most advanced fully autonomous aerial system for data collection in GPS-denied environments, according to Exyn. The vehicle has already proven beneficial to customers, as a Canadian-based international mining company called Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) selected Exyn as its technology partner, in an effort to advance its initiative for digitization and automation of its underground gold mining operations.

Corteva Agriscience to use DroneDeploy in its fleet of more than 400 UAS

Corteva Agriscience, which is the agricultural division of chemical company DowDuPont, has announced a global agreement with DroneDeploy to use DroneDeploy in its fleet of more than 400 DJI UAS across its global Seed Production and Supply Chain, as well as its Pioneer Strategic Account Management and Agronomy teams in the U.S., Canada, Brazil and Europe. “This agreement fortifies Corteva Agriscience as a leader in the use of advanced UAV technology,” says Jeremy Groeteke, Corteva Agriscience U.S. Digital Agriculture Lead.

iRobot unveils Terra robot mower

With a mind towards reinventing how people care for their lawn, iRobot Corp. has unveiled its new Terra robot mower, which features state-of-the-art mapping and navigation technologies, high-performance, high-quality mowing, and easy installation. Using iRobot’s Imprint Smart Mapping technology, Terra learns its environment, and can mow a lawn like a human does, as it navigates a yard and cuts efficiently in straight, back-and-forth lines. Terra remembers its location in the yard, and where it still needs to cover. If its battery runs low, it will return to its base to recharge, and then pick up where it left off until the yard is complete.

Delair partners with firms to provide comprehensive customer support for its Delair UX11 UAS

Delair has partnered with UAS resellers and service providers Frontier Precision and Seiler Instrument to expand its customer service operations with the qualification and opening of its first two repair and maintenance centers in the United States. Frontier Precision and Seiler Instrument will provide comprehensive customer support for Delair’s Delair UX11 advanced mapping and surveying UAS. Delair worked with technicians from both Frontier Precision and Seiler Instrument to certify them on the latest maintenance and repair processes, which are required to optimize the operations of Delair's UX11 UAS.
