The winners of the 2020 XCELLENCE Humanitarian and Public Safety Awards, sponsored by DJI, were announced on Thursday, Oct. 8.
The winners in the Humanitarian Project/Program category are Nepal Flying Labs for its Drones Optimized Therapy Systems, the UMD UAS Test Site for its Human Organ Transplant Delivery UAS program, and WildTrack for its Footprint Identification Technique (FIT).
The winners in the Public Safety Project/Program category are the Chula Vista Police Department for its Drone as a First Responder (DFR) Program, DRONERESPONDERS for its DRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Alliance, and Verity for its efforts to make drones safer with its Failsafe by Verity.
“The Humanitarian and Public Safety Awards demonstrate the profound ability of the recipients to positively impact lives through unmanned systems technology and create tremendous good will for our industry,” says Brian Wynne, president and CEO of AUVSI.
“We proudly recognize the six winners and hope their accomplishments will serve as an inspiration to utilize UAS to accomplish remarkable achievements for our society, which during a global pandemic is needed now more than ever.”
Each winner will receive $5,000 so that they continue their outstanding work with UAS. Verity, the only winner that is not a humanitarian or public safety organization, is donating its prize to Girls Who Code, a nonprofit organization building a pipeline of future female engineers to help bring more diversity of thought, opinion and experiences into the industry.
Congratulations to all of the winners!
