AUVSI Statement on Joby Airworthiness Criteria

Arlington, Va. – On behalf of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), President and CEO Brian Wynne today issued the following statement after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed airworthiness criteria for the Joby Aero, Inc. (Joby) Model JAS4-1 powered-lift aircraft:

“This is a historic announcement for the future of advanced air mobility (AAM) flight and a significant step forward for both Joby and the FAA. I commend the FAA for their diligence, and I urge the agency’s leadership to continue their work enabling AAM to meaningfully and safely operate in the National Airspace System. This announcement should serve as a key step toward the certification of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. AUVSI supports continued prioritization of Special Federal Aviation Regulation for AAM operating and pilot training requirements, and we urge FAA to normalize such a framework as soon as possible.”
