Schiebel awarded maritime surveillance service provision contract for its Camcopter S-100 UAS
The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has awarded the maritime surveillance service provision contract to Schiebel for its Camcopter S-100 UAS.
Schiebel says that a number of factors led to the Camcopter being selected for this contract, including the Camcopter's service record in the maritime domain, and its maritime surveillance expertise. The Camcopter’s payload capabilities and VTOL abilities from shore and from vessels were also contributing factors for its selection, Schiebel notes.
Through this contract, Schiebel will be able to provide simultaneous maritime surveillance services at several sites. The Camcopter S-100 UAS will be equipped with a number of components, including an L3 Wescam MX-10 Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera gimbal and an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch payload.
It will also be equipped with an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver.
“This combination of the MX-10 and Oceanwatch payloads is truly revolutionary,” says Chief Technical Officer Chris Day. “It offers game-changing quality and efficiency for wide-area maritime surveillance.”
Hans Georg Schiebel, chairman of the Schiebel Group, adds, “Schiebel is honored to cooperate with the European Maritime Safety Agency. Providing CAMCOPTER S-100 UAS services for surveillance, we hope to contribute to the maritime situational awareness of EU member states.”
