According to Reuters, U.S. ride-hailing firm Lyft has obtained a permit to test autonomous vehicles in the state of California.

The permit comes two months after Lyft announced plans to offer a self-driving car as a ride option in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is where the company is headquartered.

In an effort to advance its self-driving strategy, Lyft has formed partnerships with several autonomous car companies.

Earlier this year, Lyft struck a research collaboration with Alphabet unit Waymo.

Lyft has also formed partnerships with Ford Motor Company, along with startups NuTonomy and Drive.ai.

Lyft joins a growing list of companies that have already obtained a permit to test autonomous vehicles in the state, including its main competition in fellow ride-hailing service Uber.

Other entities such as Mercedes Benz, Apple Inc., and Samsung Electronics have also received permits to test autonomous vehicles in the state as well.
