Aerospace Cornwall has partnered with UK based UAS developer and operator UAVAid to launch the first UAS flight from Cornwall Airport Newquay in England during a capability event in May 2019.

During the event, UAVAid will showcase Hansard, its humanitarian UAS platform. The UAS is designed to not only “fundamentally improve the way aid agencies can respond to large scale disasters,” but also “boost healthcare and economic development in the developing world.”

Each UAS has a variety of capabilities, including long range cargo delivery, live streaming aerial video and large area mapping, in low infrastructure contexts.

This multi-role configuration allows the UAS to perform more tasks than traditional UAS, at a cost that is affordable across the developing world.

“We are delighted to be launch partner for the UAS capability event at Cornwall Airport Newquay,” says UAVAid co-founder, Daniel Ronen.

“As the UK’s leading developer of specialist multi-role drones for Humanitarian and International Development applications, the availability of such a facility in Cornwall will allow us to test, develop and showcase our next generation drone technology, in this country.”

UAVAid has been working with Aerospace Cornwall to look into how practical it is to move its testing and manufacturing facilities to Cornwall, which provides an “unrivalled environment” for UAS testing over land and sea, UAVAid says.

During the UAS capability event, investors and industry will have the chance to see the Hansard become the first UAS to take off from Cornwall Airport Newquay.

“This is an exciting development and we look forward to working with UAVAid at the Airport to support their activities and enhance our own operating capabilities,” says Al Titterington, Managing Director of Cornwall Airport Newquay.
