MONTREAL, CANADA, and AUVSI XPONENTIAL, USA – October 5, 2020

MANNARINO Systems & Software Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, Canada successfully achieved a first flight for its real-time operating system, M-RTOS, on September 24, 2020. Installed on a remotely-piloted aircraft system (RPAS) controlled by a MicroPilot Inc. autopilot system, the M-RTOS demonstrated seamless execution of functions between autopilot partitions and signals between the autopilot and aircraft sensors. The M-RTOS-equipped autopilot was in full control of the aircraft.

This flight test milestone – a testament to stellar collaboration between MANNARINO and MicroPilot, of Stony Mountain, Manitoba, Canada – will allow MicroPilot to begin delivery of its suite of next-generation certified autopilot systems by early 2021. MicroPilot’s objectives in selecting M-RTOS were to take advantage of robust partitioning to reduce the cost and risks of certification, and to respond promptly to customers’ requirements for new features without impacting the autopilot core software. The flight test confirms that it is feasible to develop and introduce new technologies at a rapid pace while enhancing safety and cost-effectiveness.

According to John Mannarino, President, “The first flight milestone is pivotal. It confirms the utility and value of our operating system for remotely piloted aircraft. Coupled with our services and certification capabilities, OEMs in the RPAS market have the option of a one-stop shop that can address development and certification needs and reduce costs and risk.”

“The project progress with first flight validates our selection of MANNARINO for M-RTOS and as a value-added partner for certification services and support. MANNARINO brings the full package of certifiable products and unprecedented service we were looking for in the development of our next-generation autopilot products,” added Howard W. Loewen, President of MicroPilot.

M-RTOS is the natural evolution of MANNARINO’s two decades of internationally recognized expertise in aerospace engineering of safety critical systems, certifiable software and electronic hardware. The company is also an accredited Design Approval Organization (DAO) for Transport Canada.

M-RTOS is fully compliant with ARINC-653, the industry standard for operating systems, and is RTCA/DO-178C certifiable. The software includes a complete tool suite designed to optimize the user experience. The MANNARINO Workbench is an innovative development environment with features encouraging collaboration and maximized efficiency.
