In an effort to help keep the skies safe for all aircraft, DJI and uAvionix Corp. announced on Monday that they will team up to produce the ADS-B based collision avoidance developer kit, combining top products from each company.

DJI will combine its Onboard Software Development Kit with uAvionix’s Ping sensors. The SDK will analyze an unmanned systems’ controls so that it can properly figure out how to best navigate a situation to avoid a potential crash, based off of uAvionix’s Ping sensors, which are responsible for detecting when an aircraft system is in close proximity with other aircraft and initiate collision avoidance operations if necessary.

Through press statements, both parties are beyond thrilled to be working with each other.

“DJI and uAvionix share a passion for safety and are motivated by the improvement that real-time air traffic information will provide to our developers using our software development kit,” says Darren Liccardo, DJI vice president of dngineering.

“Working in concert with the DJI Onboard SDK, our aircraft avoidance technology will provide a more complete picture of potential conflicts in the airspace,” says uAvionix founder and CEO Paul Beard.
With the successful combination of each company’s products, unmanned aircraft systems will have the ability to effectively communicate with other occupants of the airspace, as well as air traffic control to avoid potential dangerous situations.
