Two Pathways. One Trusted Standard for Commercial and Defense Markets. 

AUVSI’s Green UAS is a cybersecurity and supply chain compliance certification for drones, components, and software manufacturers. It verifies that a system is built securely, uses trusted components, and follows best practices for cybersecurity. 

The Green UAS program was originally created to bring a rigorous, scalable vetting process to the commercial and non-defense uncrewed systems market, helping operators acquire secure, NDAA-compliant technologies while strengthening the domestic manufacturing base. 

Today, through AUVSI’s formal alignment with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and our designation as a Blue UAS Recognized Assessor, Green UAS serves as a direct, streamlined pathway into the Blue UAS ecosystem—making it fully relevant for defense, government, and national security missions. 

With the introduction of Green UAS Cleared and Green UAS Certified, both pathways now offer manufacturers and end users a trusted route to meet the foundational requirements expected for DoD procurement, federal mission support, and immediate operational deployment. 

What’s New – Two Certification Pathways 

AUVSI now offers two distinct certification options depending on the level of assurance, scope, and alignment a company needs: 

1. Green UAS Cleared 

AUVSI has introduced Green UAS Cleared, a streamlined certification pathway aligned with Blue UAS Cleared status. This option focuses on the two core frameworks to simplify and accelerate alignment with the Blue UAS process while maintaining rigorous security and compliance standards. 

Green UAS Cleared is the faster, simplified pathway designed to align directly with the Blue UAS Cleared standards. It evaluates the two foundational areas required for DoW alignment: 

1. Product & Device Security
2. Supply Chain Risk Management 

Choose Green UAS Cleared if: 

• You’re most interested in the simplest pathway to achieve Blue UAS Cleared status  
• Are not interested in additional security frameworks that are most relevant to commercial and non-defense connected sensitive operations  

*Organizations may add additional frameworks later if customers require broader assurance.

 

2. Green UAS Certified 

Green UAS Certified is the original and fully comprehensive version of the program. 
It includes everything in Green UAS Cleared plus two additional security areas: 

• Corporate Cyber Hygiene – validates company-wide cybersecurity practices 
• Remote Operations & Connectivity – validates secure communications and data links 

Choose Green UAS Certified if: 

• You need the most complete level of assurance
• You support high-assurance commercial, critical infrastructure, or defense markets 
• Your customers require a full enterprise-level cybersecurity review 
• You want maximum transparency and maturity validation 

While Green UAS began as a commercial certification, Green UAS Certified is now equally valuable for organizations supporting defense or federal missions that require deeper assurance than Blue UAS’s minimum baseline.
