Job Functions:
The Technical Writer oversees the development and creation of publications solutions for Engineering and Business Development. This includes producing technical documentation such as assembly instructions, test procedures, product specifications, coordinating responses and contributing to RFIs/RFPs, and documenting intellectual property.
Act as coordinator for sales and bid activities that require responses for system level technical publications. Facilitate responses to Request For Proposal (RFP), Request For Information (RFI), or capability questionnaires for technical manual requirements. Assist in combining data into an effective system level solution.
Collaborate with Engineering/Product Development, Product Management, and Marketing to coordinate the development of technical publications for printed and online collateral.
Review detail drawings, diagrams, sketches and hardware, as well as interface with design engineers, test engineers, manufacturing engineers and other team members, to determine subject material to be developed for documentation, and documentation intent. Study drawings, specifications, and hardware to delineate technology, and production sequence detail. Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Create a library of intellectual property documentation. Write operation, calibration and maintenance procedures, test procedures, product specifications, and assembly instructions. Produce photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate technical documentation. Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in technical or engineering field preferred, or equivalent Technical Writing job experience with a technical firm in the defense field.
Work Experience:
At least 5 years' experience in the development and delivery of technical publications solutions preferably in the military or aerospace environment (preferred 10-15 years' experience).
Skills/Knowledge:
Proposal writing
Performance of, or familiarity with, maintenance task analysis from preliminary drawings for commercial, aerospace or military products
Write operation, calibration and maintenance procedures for test equipment
Draft test procedures, protocols, and profiles
Prepare structured documentation aligned with customer provided standards.
Writing automation scripts with looped processing logic, variable and subroutine calls
Vendor Management experience
Develop, write and edit technical content to be presented in a simplified manner to a diverse audience who may or may not be technically savvy.
Special Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication skills            
Familiarity with written technical formats
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and information
Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience in computerized document control systems.
Strong organizational and time management skills
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Format documents using Styles & Formatting, including Tables, Figures and Cross-References.
