Update: April 23, 2016
Hello, AUVSI Hampton Roads Chapter members!
On May 1st, management of our Chapter will be transitioned over to a fine new leadership team who, like all our outgoing Officers, are committed to continued growth & success of our organization and unmanned systems industry as a whole. The next two years will offer our Chapter many new opportunities to become engaged in local, state & national politics affecting all types of unmanned technologies, and their applications. I am calling on -all- Chapter Members to get behind this new leadership team and get involved helping to shape the future of our AUVSI, both locally and nationally.
Looking back, I am proud of the efforts we made to enhance the prominence of unmanned systems in the Commonwealth, through our support of the VA Governor's Cyber Security and the Unmanned Systems Commissions, as well as the Virginia Aviation Council. But I am especially happy to have personally led AUVSI to create a voting seat on our National Board, to be filled by one of our now ~35 Chapter Presidents who participate in the Chapter Presidents Council. It's a first for the Presidents
This change (which I initiated) offers a vestige of representative democracy for individual members with AUVSI Headquarters, so if you have issues or concerns about our Association or the industry, be sure to speak up, as I am confident that our new Chapter Officers are up to the task of making sure your voices continue to be heard in Washington, as well as Richmond. Become involved, get active, be heard! Your thoughts and opinions -do- matter!
On May 2-5, I hope you will join me in New Orleans at this year's Xponential event, AUVSI's rebranded annual 'National" show. This is my twenty-ninth (29th!) consecutive AUVSI Show, and by every indication it will be the best yet, as it is every year. Don't forget the reception on Tuesday night that is being hosted by Williams-Mullen and the VEDP.
Finally, when you get back from the New Orleans show, please make a -special- effort to attend the International Drone Day flight demonstration being performed at the Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport under auspices of the Tidewater Drone Club, with special approval of FAA Richmond Flight Services District Office (FSDO) and the Virginia Department of Aviation. This event is being co-sponsored by your AUVSI HR Chapter and will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th.
I really want to thank you for all your support and friendships during these two years in which I have been privileged to be your Chapter President. It's been fun, in a time when the fun is only beginning.

Our growing membership base includes a number of academic institutions and industry proponents, many of whom are very active in AUVSI activity in Richmond and in nearby Washington, D.C.
