Co-Op opportunity for the Spring or Summer of 2017 is available on the DP&L Engineering Services team.
The successful candidate should be a student pursuing a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. An academic standing of Sophomore status or higher is preferred. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with a strong academic background, exceptional attention to detail, and organization and presentation skills. A proficiency in AutoCad and Microsoft Office programs – especially Excel and Word – also is preferred.
The Engineering Services team collaborates with many areas of the Company, including operations and construction. Accordingly, the successful candidate may be assigned to various departments during his/her Co-Op position. Co-Op will broaden knowledge and experience in the field of engineering by:
- Supporting design engineers on a variety of electric utility projects, such as ones to adjust the Company’s overhead distribution system for Public Improvement Projects, DP&L-driven System Improvements, and reliability projects;
- Managing database for all programs;
- Developing new databases for program tracking and administration;
- Verifying electric facilities through field research;
- Updating discrepancies between blue prints/schematics, customer databases and system modeling.
Co-Op may be expected to complete additional assignments as determined by his/her supervisor.
If academic credit for the work experience is desired, it is the Co-Op student’s responsibility to provide appropriate paperwork, interviews and evaluations to the supervisor in a timely manner for completion and verification.
Working conditions vary. Conditions include indoor work in clean, well-lighted, air-conditioned, heated and ventilated surroundings as well as distribution sites. These sites may have high temperatures and humidity; may involve outdoor work observation; require the use of personal protective equipment or special clothing. Job may require some driving (company vehicle).
