The Chief Engineer is responsible for Advanced Aircraft Development, execution of assigned Air Vehicle development programs. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and to assigned Program Managers, the Chief Engineer is responsible for defining and documenting customer project technical requirements, developing winning solutions, and successfully executing the projects. The CE is responsible for leading integration and test activities. The CE must be able to work split site operations, with multiple team members from different discipline as well as subcontractors, customer technical staff (large and small) and academia.
A successful CE will lead platform selection, concept of operations development to drive test planning, communications architecture development, and development of the project requirements. Furthermore, the CE is responsible for development of the risk plans and manage risk, lead the test program (to include verification and validation) and oversee the integration of systems onto the aircraft. The CE is responsible for communicating with the program team, senior management, and the customer. The CE is responsible to ensure prioritization and organization of the test team and its tasking’s. Orchestrate milestone reviews (system requirements review, preliminary design review, critical design review, manufacturing readiness reviews, flight readiness reviews, and test readiness reviews). Ensure system technical baseline is maintained and necessary trades are made.
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent (aeronautical/aerospace, electrical, or computer) required.
Master’s degree highly preferred.
Demonstrated leadership of large (15-20 people) teams.
Minimum 10 years' experience as aircraft chief engineer, subsystem system engineering, design, integration and test.
Highly effective technical writing and presenting technical material.
Experience in flight test, ideally with VTOL aircraft.
Must be a US Person (Green Card holder or US Citizen).
Experience working with large aerospace prime contractors and US government customers is a plus.
Experience with UAV or aircraft certification is a plus.
Experience with Software intensive programs is a plus.
Knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop simulators is a plus.
Pilot experience is highly preferred.
Knowledge of VTOL platform highly desirable.
Able to travel and provide hands on support for large aircraft development activities.
Business hours except for travel and occasional extended shift meetings and development testing.
