The U.S. Army for Shadow Tactical Aircraft System (TUAS) Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) has awarded Textron Systems Support Solutions a contract worth $206 million.
As a part of the contract, Textron will continue to provide support to the 117 Shadow systems that have been acquired and deployed by military forces in the United States and Australia.
Support could include anything from training of military personnel to making sure that the systems are ready for use to ensure the highest rate of success. Via press release
, Support Solutions Senior Vice President and General Manager at Textron Ryan Hazlett says, “Support Solutions has been the chosen CLS contractor for the U.S. Army’s CLS contract since 2005, and we are proud to continue supporting their Shadow systems throughout this past decade.”
“This contract also supports the U.S. Army’s Shadow v2 block upgrade program, under which Textron Systems acts as an end-to-end solution provider.”
Some of the features of the Shadow v2 include a high-bandwidth, the ability to carry a variety of payloads thanks to an encrypted data link, and manned-unmanned teaming capabilities.
Currently, the system is being used by the Army to partner with the its Apache helicopter fleet to conduct scouting missions within the Army’s combat aviation brigades.
In total, the Shadow TUAS has more than one million flight hours.
