ING Robotic Aviation completed a two week mission operating unmanned aircraft systems off of Fednav’s ice-breaking cargo ship MV Arctic.

The research and development project, led by Enfotec Technical Services assessed operational and technical aspects of ship-based UAV monitoring, and demonstrated the capability of UAS to provide situational awareness in the most extreme conditions.

“February voyages are some of the most challenging, even for this very capable vessel, and ING Robotic Aviation provided the equipment and personnel we required to continue our work with unmanned aircraft systems,” says Enfotec Remote Sensing Analyst Alexis Dorais.

The UAS guided the cargo ship north from Montreal to Deception Bay using a standard Nikon D7100 camera.

“This is a demonstration of our teams’ ability to discover new uses for robotic aircraft everyday,” says ING CEO Ian Glenn.
