Foxx to address world’s largest gathering of automated vehicle professionals and experts in San Francisco on July 19

ARLINGTON, Va. — United States Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx will deliver the keynote address at Automated Vehicles Symposium 2016, which will be held at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square Hotel. Foxx will give his remarks on July 19 at 8:20 a.m. PDT. The symposium is hosted by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International and the Transportation Research Board. It is the largest gathering of professionals and experts working to make automated vehicles a reality.

Secretary Foxx has served as U.S. Secretary of Transportation since he was appointed by President Obama in 2013. He leads an agency of more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion budget that oversees air, maritime, and surface transportation. The department’s primary goal is to ensure America maintains the safest, most efficient transportation system in the world. Previously, Foxx served as the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, where he made efficient and innovative transportation investments the centerpiece of Charlotte’s job creation and economic recovery efforts.

Now in its third year, the Automated Vehicles Symposium brings together senior officials and researchers, including government officials, academics and industry experts, from the field of automated vehicles. The event will focus on challenges and opportunities to increase automation of motor vehicles as well as the environments in which they operate.

AUVSI and TRB have organized topics for the symposium on ethical considerations related to automated vehicles, public perceptions of the technology, unique technical and legal challenges, international initiatives in the field, enhancing the cybersecurity of these vehicles, and how urban planning can impact or be impacted by the technology.

Automated Vehicles Symposium 2016 will take place from July 19 to 21, with ancillary meetings conducted on July 18 and 22. More information is available at www.automatedvehiclessymposium.org.

Complimentary registration is provided to the media. For more information, contact Tom McMahon at tmcmahon@auvsi.or or 571.255-7786.
