AUVSI's Fire Fighting TTX 2010 (FF-TTX 2010)

Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) is pleased to announce AUVSI’s Fire Fighting Table Top Exercise 2010 and cooperative unmanned systems fire fighting Demonstration.

AUVSI's Fire Fighting TTX 2010 (FF-TTX 2010)

AUVSI is continuing its initiative to demonstrate the role of unmanned systems in public safety applications with the latest event in the TTX series.

FF-TTX 2010 is designed to capture the metrics and produce a strategy for evaluating the scientific value and operational effectiveness of uninhabited systems in forest fire surveillance, monitoring, control and coordination. FF-TTX10 will:

  • Determine metrics for measuring unmanned systems in fire management operations.
  • Provide a controlled fire environment that allows for operations of UAS and unmanned ground vehicle technologies related to fire management.

This announcement is an open call to the AUVSI unmanned systems community that is interested in participating in the FF-TTX 2010 demonstration and facilitated discussion. AUVSI is seeking organizations with sensors, platforms, or payloads that wish to demonstrate. Featured unmanned systems technologies for demonstration include:

  • Remote Video Terminals
  • Image Exploitation
  • Sensing technologies
    • EO/IR
    • Long rage optical
    • RADAR/LIDAR
    • Temperature/thermal
    • Weather/Air quality
  • Fuel assessment- characterization, loading, consumption
  • Asset Tracking
  • Quick look (over tree line, 20 min sortie)
  • Tactical recon (status updates, 4 hour sortie)
  • Persistent surveillance (overwatch, 12 hour mission)
  • Earth mover, ditch digging, brush clearing
  • Fire starting (aerial or ground based)
  • Cargo delivery
  • Retardant delivery (air or ground, water or foam)
  • Application of protective coatings

AUVSI will facilitate capability matching as needed. For instance, if a sensor developer needs a host UAS platform to operate, AUVSI will attempt to connect interested participants. Demonstration time is limited and every effort will be made to provide time for each of the above capabilities that are available.

AUVSI is committed to understanding the needs of the operators, practitioners, policy makers, regulators, and developers of these technologies. Invited participants include, and not limited to:

  • FAA, International civil aviation authorities
  • DHS, DOI, DoD, USFS
  • NASA
  • CALFIRE State emergency management agencies
  • Municipal Fire Departments
  • CFSI, IAFC, IAWF
  • Federal, State and Local Governments and Representatives
  • Academia

In 2009 AUVSI hosted the first of the Fire Fighting TTX exercises with a three day discussion and simulation at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. The Final Report from FF-TTX 2009, is available on the AUVSI website

Cost to Participate:

AUVSI’s TTX2010 participation is open to AUVSI members only. The deadline to register is 7 September 2010.

  • Demonstration Participant: Includes exclusive demonstration time to VIP-invited observers and other FF-TTX 2010 associates, and Final Report. There will be an exhibit area to distribute information on your capabilities to all participants.
