CSC in support of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center is seeking an entry level Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineer with a background in environmental assessment to support the Environmental Measurement and Modeling Division.

Must possess US citizenship, or Green Card, or clearable for position of public trust, Work Location: Kendall Sq, Cambridge, MA.  Convenient to Red Line, Kendall Sq

Essential Job Functions

  • Organize and process flight information for processing through the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) to determine fuel consumption. Flight information may be in various forms including Enhanced Traffic Management System (ETMS), Performance Data Analysis and Reporting System (PDARS), or other formats.
  • Assist with processing of Base of Aircraft Data (BADA) to determine applicability of usage in AEDT.
  • Strong organization ability, comfort as a technical liaison to environmental stakeholders, and solid presentation/writing skills. 
  • Assists in the development of aeronautical/astronautical systems designs for current and conceptualized hardware, components and systems. Prepares plans and drawings using design software.
  • Performs various, basic analyses as directed by senior personnel, including flight dynamics, thermal, structural, guidance and control, stability, etc. to assist in the identification of correct configuration, integrity and feasibility of design(s).
  • Assists in the creation of working subsystem prototype(s) at the brass board level for proof of concept or customer demonstration. Prepares technical documentation. Verifies that prototype(s) meet design criteria or subsystem specifications.
  • Assists in the review of vendor/contractor capability to bring product design from engineering prototype phase to production release.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in aeronautical/astronautical engineering or related field preferred
  • Zero or more years of experience in aeronautical/astronautical engineering related product analysis, design and development
  • Experience working with aeronautical/astronautical design principles and practices
  • Experience working with state of the art practice design and development tools
  • Experience working with production processes to include fabrication, plastic injection molding, metal forming and/or machining processes

Other Qualifications 

  • Degree background  in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering desired
  • Knowledge of the FAA and familiarity with commercial aviation operations is a significant plus
  • Environmental assessment experience desired
  • System/Process Design experience desired
  • Database experience desired
  • Scientific analysis experience desired
  • MATLAB experience desired  
  • Basic skills in computer assisted design (CAD) software such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Basic analytical and problem solving skills for the design and testing of prototype(s) through product release
  • Basic organization and time management skills
  • Basic interpersonal skills to interact with team members, vendors and contractors
  • Communication skills to convey design/analysis/production of product to team members, vendors and contractors
  • Ability to use common power and hand tools and electrical and tolerance measuring devices and equipment for the development of prototypes
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
