Hi Zachary,

I am glad to hear your team is excited to enter the 2013 RoboBoat competition!

The final rules are not completed yet, but I am not planning to have any penalty in place for firing multiple shots on the hoops challenge.

For the sneaky sprinkler, we are not planning any penalty there, but may provide bonus points for hitting the right one the first time

Different sections of the prelim rules seems to be conflicting on this. The reasons is that different sections of the course have different rules. For example, you must complete the starting and speeding gate in order. If you choose to do the navigation challenge, you must complete it after the speeding gate. But after that it is completely up to you to decide the order you will attempt the challenge stations. For the starting & speeding gate, the penalty for not completing in order is to prevent accumulation of any other points. For the navigation challenge, no penalty has been defined because I never envisioned someone would want to do that, but I would say that you don't get points if it is not completed after the speeding gate.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Felix

Subject: Questions on 2013 Preliminary Rules
Message:
Hi all,
Just had some questions regarding the preliminary rules that were just released.

1.  For the shoot through the hoops challenge, will there be any penalty for firing multiple missed shots among ones that hit their targets?

2.  For the sneaky sprinkler challenge, will there be a penalty for pressing both buttons as opposed to just pressing the correct one?

3.  The rules mention that the challenges are to be completed in order.  What is this order and is there a penalty for doing the challenges out of order?

Announcing a new MathWorks Webinar:  Model-Based Design of Guidance and Control Logic for RoboBoat and RoboSub using Stateflow

Date : December 6, 2012 @ 3 p.m. EST

Description: In this webinar, we will cover basic Model-Based Design in the Simulink/Stateflow environment. We will build up a simple plant model of a small autonomous boat and then show the steps involved in creating high-level guidance logic in Stateflow. We will also cover the use of the new PID tuning capabilities in Simulink to design inner-loop control laws for speed and heading control.

Message:
Hi Gene,
We are currently reviewing the draft of the 2013 RoboBoat preliminary rules. What I can say so far is that parts of the competitions will stay the same (starting/speed gates, navigation challenge) while we are adding 2 new challenge stations (and retiring some). The same sensor system that were used in 2012 should meet the need of the 2013 competition but you may need some new actuators for the new challenge stations.

The preliminary rules should be release shortly.

I just wanted to know what the status on getting the preliminary rules. We have done our initial planning and would like to start building our new boat as our college semester is coming to a close. We would like to know the details for the challenge stations and any changes to the rules from last year's before we start building in case we need to add anything. Thank you.

Message:
I was wondering when the preliminary rules for Roboboat 6 will be coming out.  I know last year at about this time, the initial rule set was released for Roboboat 5.  I am attempting to recruit students to work on this year's boat, and a overview of the extra challenges would be useful at this stage.  Do not mean to rush anybody, but I just wanted an estimate for initial planning.

Thanks.
