Hi all,

I'm the director of a small UK based aerospace technical documentation company. We write various types of user manuals (maintenence manuals, aircrew manuals, repair manuals etc. etc.) for aerospace companies.

I was hoping if somebody could tell me if there is a documentation standard develped and adopted by UAV manufacturers?

In aerospace we have S1000D which is pretty much the industry standard, and this is also used by suppliers to reduce time and cost of the manufacturer producing the end technical publication.

It also means regardless of manufacturer, the technical manuals are in the same general layout and format - having obvious advantages to the end user.

Is this something which has been discussed, considered, planned or even implemented? If not we would like to work with some UAV manufacturers to try to develop a standard.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

As for communication of various unmanned systems (air ground maritime), I see NATO STANAG 4586 being used principally for UAS, where SAE JAUS is used for any type of unmanned system: doesn't it mean JAUS is better suited to interoperability between classes of UxV than the STANAG standard?

Dave,

Wow, that is quite an exhaustive list. As I have my people review this, what should I tell them are the questions they should be looking to answer?

1) Are you looking for our feedback regarding which we feel are true standards since some are closer to architectures and/or someone's implementation of a system.
2) Are you looking for our opinions on which subset of these would provide the needed glue to field interoperable systems.
3) Are you looking for feedback on which ones have definitions for compliance and can be tested against?
4) Others?
