Until I opened this month's Unmanned Systems Magazine, I didn't think that AUVSI was going to get me engaged in a discussion about standards on their web site.  However, on page 40 in the "Chapter News" article there is a quote from Dan Goldin:  "Wouldn't it be wonderful if AUVSI worked with IEEE to develop an unmanned systems interoperability standard?" A team from France's Institut superieur de l'aeronautique et de l'espace (ISAE) SUPAERO beat out competitors from Germany, Australia and the United States to win the top spot at the 4th Annual International Micro Air Vehicle (IMAV) Workshop and Flight Competition, held 1-5 June in Pensacola, Fla. 

 

However, the team from the University of Arizona ended up taking home the most prize money with its propeller-topped vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle.  [more]
